13 lucky for some as UCC run riot

FIVE goals from Jonathan Herlihy and a hat-trick from Frank O’Keeffe secured UCC a place in the final four of this year’s Collingwood Cup.

Ken Bruton, Shane Hennessy, Darren Hayes and brothers Richard and Kevin Bambury scored the other goals as the Cork side cruised to the top of Group 4 with a flattering 13-0 win over a poor St Patrick’s side.

However, they will not be getting carried away. Darren Hayes, club chairman and a member of the squad, said: “We are delighted to have scored so many goals but we can’t let this result go to our heads.

“We have put a lot of work into our preparation for this year’s competition, and we need to concentrate on the task at hand, beating Queens in their own back-yard.

“They will be a much stronger opposition and we have to be at our best to beat them.”

UCC will have a tough game against the hosts tomorrow.

Queens drew 2-2 with UCD yesterday in the group decider but went top on goal difference. They will be well up for a game against the current holders, UCC today.

Coleraine narrowly defeated St Mary’s yesterday 2-1 in a gamethat could have seen either qualify. They now face an impressive UL side today.

UL maintained their 100% record in the competition this year so far with a 2-0 win over Trinity yesterday and are considered to be the favourites against Coleraine today.
