On the pitch less than a minute, O’Connor met fellow substitute Gavin Doyle’s corner to head home with 15 minutes to go. Robbie Farrell had levelled the scores for the Vikings from Robbie Clarke’s 64th minute corner.

Kilkenny’s goal came, on 27 minutes, from their only real attack of the half. A Damien Raggett cross was straight at Clarke who was adjudged to have handled and David Dunphy calmly sent Robbie Horgan the wrong way from the resultant penalty.
