Ronaldinho and Eto’o still suffering from itchy feet
Beckham’s sale means there is cash available for a summer spending spree and Eto’o’s representative Willie McKay says Ferguson’s scouts have already checked on the 22-year-old who Tottenham were pursuing last summer.
“Samuel’s got three years left on his contract but he’s desperate to come to the Premier League,” McKay said.
“I’ve put him forward to Manchester United and they’ve watched him recently. He’s scored 15 goals this year but the problem is that Mallorca want £10million for him.”
Eto’o’s former club Real Madrid have a massive 50% sell-on clause in his contract but that clause expires this summer.
The nippy Cameroon front-man was in Confederations Cup action last night when his country faced Brazil and Ronaldinho.
The brother and agent of PSG’s Brazilian international star Ronaldinho will hold talks with Barcelona vice-president Sandro Rosell today.
Assis, who has been the 23-year-old’s guardian since their father died when Ronaldinho was eight, also revealed that no announcements would be made before the end of the Confederations Cup but that Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris St Germain are the only clubs still in the race.
That confirms speculation that Real Madrid will drop their interest after signing David Beckham.
The arrival at PSG of a new management team of president Francis Graille and coach Vahid Halilhodzic has further complicated the situation.
Ronaldinho has had a difficult relationship with former coach Luis Fernandez and claimed that Graille’s predecessor Laurent Perpere had a gentleman’s agreement to let the player, contracted to PSG until 2006, leave this summer.
Both Graille and Halilhodzic have vowed to hang onto the player but have insisted he will be punished should he continue to breach club discipline - Fernandez was overruled by Perpere when he tried to act last season.
“Manchester, Barcelona and PSG are still interested in Ronaldinho,” said Assis, who confirmed that the decision would not be announced until after the tournament finishes on June 29.
