‘Roonaldo’ is making life sweet for the Toffees

WHEN it comes to star quality there can be little dispute that the squad at Liverpool outshine their rivals across Stanley Park. The glamour boys of Anfield scrub up well compared with the blue-collar workers at Everton.

With one exception that is. John Lennon may have belittled the 'working-class hero' but Wayne Rooney is emerging as the city of Liverpool's blue-eyed boy, and if Everton can hang on to him that threatens to upset the old order.

He's known locally and nationally too now as 'Roonaldo'. The stocky 17-year-old, he of chewing gum and loose-knotted tie fame at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards, is as swaggering and confident on the pitch as he is gauche and uncomfortable off it.
