LEEDS UNITED manager Terry Venables hopes to hang on to his leading players when the English transfer window opens today, and that includes wantaway striker Robbie Fowler.

But it seems that any possible sale of Fowler would be out of his hands as the manager is still to learn what spending power, if any, he has available to him after talks with chairman Peter Ridsdale.

The former Liverpool and England front man has been linked with a move to Manchester City, but Venables says he is keen to add to, rather than detract from, his squad. “I’m not up for ‘outs’. I’m up for ‘ins’ if possible, but then sometimes these things are out of your control and you’ve just got to try and do the best you can.
