Pompey target want-away Schwarzer

PORTSMOUTH have declared an interest in want-away Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer after the Australian handed in a transfer request last week.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp has not yet spoken to Boro but confirmed he would like to bring the 33-year-old to Fratton Park.

The arrival of new club co-owner Alexandre Gaydamak has injected funds into Portsmouth who are fighting to stay in the Premiership. Already Benjani Mwaruwari has arrived from Auxerre in a club-record £4.1m deal, while Emmanuel Olisadebe has signed on a pay-as-you-play contract from Panathinaikos.

Redknapp may also snap up former Spurs and Wolves striker Steffen Iversen in the next few weeks.
