Wenger continues bargain hunt with defender Clichy

ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger has underlined his reputation for recruiting players on a shoestring by clinching the cut-price signing of teenaged French defender Gael Clichy.

Arsenal have had to pay around £250,000 in compensation to relegated Cannes for Wenger’s 18-year-old compatriot who impressed the Gunners boss with a string of solid performances in pre-season friendlies.

With Brazilian left back Juan joining Millwall on a three-month loan, Clichy could be initially employed as cover for Ashley Cole. And he could figure again when Arsenal play Rangers at Ibrox tonight after holding Celtic to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
