Council clears Hoops move

A DECISION by South Dublin County Council has cleared the way for Shamrock Rovers to put down roots at the new Municipal Stadium in Tallaght.

Councillors yesterday backed a recommendation that dismissed suggestions the stadium should be used for other sports, clearing the way for government funding to be freed up.

Building should restart soon and Rovers could be in for the start of the 2007 season. Rovers’ chairman Jonathan Roche said in a statement: “We can’t wait to bring eircom League football to Tallaght and finally provide our magnificent supporters with a place we can call home.”
