Westport win appeal

The FAI Senior Council have ruled that the Statoil FAI Junior Cup semi final between Carew Park and Westport United be re-fixed.

Westport win appeal

Limerick side Carew Park beat United 3-2 on penalties in March’s last four clash at Jackman Park on Shannonside.

But Mayo outfit Westport protested to the FAI Junior Council that Carew Park’s Denis Whelan should have been banned for that match because he was sent off in his side’s quarter-final win.

The Junior Council dismissed the initial appeal - but United counter-appealed and the Senior Council yesterday ruled that the game be re-fixed.

It is understood that if both sides agree to the Council’s ruling, the game will go ahead at Jackman Park on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

Waterford Crystal await the winners in the final at Turners Cross on May 08.
