THE FAI and the eircom League have expressed delight at the size of the television audience which tuned in to see Cork City win the league title by beating Derry City at Turner’s Cross last Friday.

While nearly 8,000 spectators crammed in to Turners Cross to witness the showdown, a further 355,000 saw at least some of RTE 2’s live coverage of the game.

Figures released yesterday by RTE show a rating for the viewing peaking at 9.3 while the share peaked at 23.8, translating to 355,000 viewers at peak time.
