FA CHIEF EXECUTIVE Adam Crozier resigned last night after refusing to compromise on his opposition to plans by the Premier League to take more control of the game.

Crozier failed to receive any public backing from FA chairman Geoff Thompson as he tried to stand in the way of top-flight proposals to set up a 'professional game board'.

The Premier League insist the changes are needed to protect their commercial interests and to ensure the game is properly run.
