ROBERT PIRES has taken the first step towards healing his rift with the French FA by apologising for wearing a shirt which contravened one of the national team’s sponsorship deals.

Pires went on television show Telefoot last month dressed in Puma clothes - a move which angered FFF officials and team sponsors Adidas.

Adidas claimed the move cost them €50,000 and Pires was summoned to Paris yesterday to explain his actions.
