The Blues, who already had a 2-0 lead from the first leg, made sure of victory with Glen Johnson and Robert Huth scoring their first senior goals, while Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink also found the net.

With Stamford Bridge only three-quarters full and Chelsea having established such a clear first leg lead, it was a relatively low-key opening.

Failing to capitalise on their superiority, the nearest they came to scoring in the opening 20 minutes was a low, inswinging corner taken by Hasselbaink which brushed off Gudjohnsen's outstretched leg and ran past the far post.

Jesper Gronkjaer, meanwhile, who had been giving the ball away with monotonous regularity, finally found his range on 26 minutes as he produced a pinpoint cross which Hasselbaink could only head over the bar.

That at least brought the crowd to life and, when Vladimir Stas brought down Gronkjaer to earn a booking, Chelsea made the most of the ensuing free-kick. Defensive midfielder Dusan Sninsky could only half-clear the ball as it arrowed into the penalty area from the right wing and Johnson was lurking to head the ball inside the left-hand upright.

Lampard then fired a shot just over the bar, but Zilina captain Branislav Labant responded with his own 25-yard shot that flew just wide.

Chelsea made one change at the interval with Lampard who will surely start Saturday's game against Blackburn being replaced by Emmanuel Petit, who has been linked with a possible move to Tottenham. It was the Frenchman's first first-team action this season after suffering a bout of blood poisoning, following a hernia operation during the summer.

Zilina mounted the first attack of the second-half, with Daniel Kosmel's cross-shot deflected just wide of the far post.

Chelsea responded with Geremi netting the ball after a corner. But a free-kick had already been awarded for a foul on the goalkeeper by Johnson.

The Blues were then forced into their second change, when Desailly picked up a knock and promising German centre-back Robert Huth came on.

After Petit had forced keeper Branislav Rzeszoto into a diving save, Huth took less than three minutes to make his own mark before he rose at the far post to head home the Frenchman's corner.

Mario Stanic then came on to replace Gronkjaer.

Hasselbaink finally got his name on the scoresheet with 12 minutes left, as he controlled Geremi's long through ball and clipped his shot past keeper Rzeszoto.

Huth should have been credited with a fourth goal soon afterwards when he hit a ferocious free-kick against the underside of the bar. While replays showed that ball went over the line, it was not awarded.

Chelsea were nevertheless comfortably through and the Champions League group stage now awaits them.
