Gallant Ireland fall to strike from Czech hitman Jezek

Following Tuesday’s 3-3 draw with Norway and last night’s defeat, Brian Kerr’s side have just one point and, with one game remaining, they cannot overtake group leaders the Czech Republic who have six points from two games.

It was a gallant performance by Ireland, who created a host of chances, particularly in the first half. On balance they deserved at least a point with Derek Tyrell and Mark Quigley both going close in the dying minutes.
