Fergie seeks Kleberson to make United complete

MANCHESTER UNITED manager Alex Ferguson wants Kleberson to fill the void left by Juan Sebastian Veron’s departure to Chelsea.

Fergie seeks Kleberson to make United complete

The Brazil World Cup winner is due to link up with the squad on Tuesday, providing his application for a work permit is granted.

Ferguson believes Kleberson can make a big impact in the Premiership.

"He is young and we certainly think he is one of the most progressive young players in Brazil," he said.

"He is athletic, creative and quick."

Providing there are no problems with his work permit and none are expected he will be Ferguson's fourth signing of the summer.

Eric Djemba-Djemba, David Bellion and goalkeeper Tim Howard have been recruited already.

Ferguson admits he has made a determined effort to reduce the average age of his squad.

"We don't have that many in their 30s now, only Roy Keane, Fabien Barthez, Ryan Giggs and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

"But there is a group below them as well with great experience.

"When you are thinking about the future it is easier to construct your model with younger players, so we had to look at that 22-23 age group."

Djemba-Djemba and Bellion both played in the 3-1 defeat by Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday night.

Ferguson said: "Eric Djemba-Djemba has broken into the Cameroon team and played all their games and he is only 22. He has a long future in front of him, but he is very much in the present also."

On Bellion, Ferguson said: "He is 20, and he is a young 20 really.

"He has got a lot of football to learn, but I am sure in two years he will be a big asset for us. He is a very skilful and quick attacker."

Ferguson has now set his sights on signing another defender and a striker, but he warned other clubs not to expect United to pay unreasonable fees, despite bringing in stg£40 million for Beckham and Veron.

"There's one massive buyer, Chelsea, and the rest are trying to be sensible.

"United have always kept a good ship, very well balanced in terms of salaries and money paid out, and we are always competitive in terms of winning things," he said.
