Cobh Ramblers are hoping to raise in excess of €50,000 from the club’s fixture with a Roy Keane Manchester United XI at Turners Cross on July 17.

According to Cobh chairman John O’Sullivan the fundraiser, involving a team brought to Cork by the club’s most famous ex-player, has come at a crucial time because traditional funding sources are drying up.

“We approached Roy Keane some time ago with the intention of trying to organise some form of fundraiser and it was his idea to bring a Manchester United team to play us,” O’Sullivan said.
