Ramblers bank on Roy to raise funds
According to Cobh chairman John O’Sullivan the fundraiser, involving a team brought to Cork by the club’s most famous ex-player, has come at a crucial time because traditional funding sources are drying up.
“We approached Roy Keane some time ago with the intention of trying to organise some form of fundraiser and it was his idea to bring a Manchester United team to play us,” O’Sullivan said.
“The idea of selling tickets for a dinner and having him speak afterwards did not appeal to Roy, so he suggested this instead and we are very grateful,” he added.
The United team will be made up of youth and reserve players, as well as Keane, and he will also manage the side.
Tickets will range from €10 to €15, with limited numbers of schoolboy tickets available at €8.
Tickets will be available at Ramblers’ home games, and at the clubhouse on Monday to Thursday between 8 and 9.30pm
“We hope to raise between €50,000 and €60,000 from this.
“We feel it will be a wonderful occasion for United fans in Cork to see the club’s young talent,” O’Sullivan said.
