Soccer: Supersub Parks keeps Lokomotiv on track
The Ukrainian champions twice came from a goal down to level before Lokomotiv’s Costa Rican striker, who came on just minutes before, fired the Russians ahead after 89 minutes.
Lokomotiv’s victory put the Russians top of the group with eight points from five games.
Dynamo had more chances early on but Lokomotiv striker Maxim Buznikin opened the scoring against the run of play when he beat Olexander Shovkovsky with a low drive into the far corner in the 28th minute.
Dynamo captain Valentin Belkevich equalised nine minutes later with a rising shot into the top corner after being set up by Oleg Husev’s header following a Tiberiu Ghioane free kick.
Sergei Ignashevich put Lokomotiv back in front with a disputed penalty on the stroke of halftime after Spanish referee Arturo Ibanez penalised Yuri Dmitrulin for a foul on Buznikin.
But Uzbek striker Maxim Shatskikh, Dynamo’s top scorer this season, levelled once again midway through the second half with his eighth goal in this year’s Champions League campaign.
Shatskikh almost added another to his tally when he fired towards the far corner from close range with 10 minutes left but Lokomotiv keeper Sergei Ovchinnikov made a diving save.
Hanu Tihinen’s 70th-minute headed goal gave Anderlecht a 1-0 win over Olympique Lyon and keeps their hopes alive in Group A last night.
Midfielder Tihinen side-footed over the bar from less than a metre when it was easier to score from Croatia striker Ivica Mornar’s low cross from the right in the 35th minute.
In Group C, Monaco, reduced to nine men by the end of their tie reached the last 16 after a 1-1 draw against PSV Eindhoven.
Fernando Morientes scored with a fine header to put Monaco ahead after 34 minutes. Substitute Jan Vennegoor equalised from a free kick shortly after Monaco’s Andreas Zikos was sent off, apparently for picking up the ball because a team mate was injured.
PSV, who had Theo Lucius sent off in the 50th minute, must beat Deportivo by more than 2-0 to also qualify from Group C.
Deportivo Coruna took a step closer to the last 16 of the competition with a comfortable 3-0 win over AEK Athens match at the Riazor.
A 25-metre thunderbolt from defender Hector midway through the first half, a Juan Carlos Valeron strike at the start of the second and a simple finish from Albert Luque 20 minutes from time completed the rout.
In Group D, Real Sociedad move a little closer to the second phase after a 2-2 draw which ended Olympiakos’ interest in the competition.
The Spaniards opened the scoring on 19 minutes thanks through Igor Gabilondo. However, the Greeks responded with goals from Ieroklis Stoltidis and Nery Alberto Castillo. But Real responded quickly as Gabriel Schurrer volleyed a cross past Katergiannakis.
The Spanish side will be through unless Galatasaray SK beat Juventus FC next Tuesday.
