Ireland advance in Danone Nations Cup

Ireland are through to the last 16 of the Danone Nations Cup for the first time. Their progression in the U12 soccer tournament came courtesy of a hard-won one-nil victory over Canada in their last group game.

Two draws against Germany and Morocco early in the group left the Irish U12 squad needing a win going into their final game to ensure their progress to the next stages of the competition.

A goal from Shane Murray and a super performance by keeper Ryan Kinsella ensured Ireland progressed.

The win gained them second place in Group H and a spot in today’s quarter-finals against Hungary.
