Bayern boss knocks United

BAYERN MUNICH chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says he cannot fathom why Michael Ballack would want to join Manchester United.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and will decide on his future by Christmas.

Rummenigge told Premiere television: “What would speak for Manchester United against Bayern Munich? Nothing - if you take a look at the table in England.

“I cannot imagine he would go there. If I were a player I would not go there.”

Ballack, who scored Bayern’s first in the 4-0 win over Duisburg, has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Munich.

But Rummenigge also believes that a potential transfer to Spain and Real Madrid would also be a mistake.

“Real Madrid are obviously a club with an incredible image but, as we have seen, they have not won anything at all in the last two years,” he added.
