THE Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifying rivals Cyprus have appointed Angelos Anastassiades as their new coach.

Former Greek international player and Paok Salonika coach Anastassiades succeeds Montenegran Momcilo Vukotic, fired following a string of poor results.

Anastassiades has signed a short-term contract until October 2005, with an option to extend it for a further two years.
