World Cup ticket sale

ONE million tickets for the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany were ordered within 12 hours of going on sale with 90% of the demand coming from Europe, the organising committee said.

More than 150,000 orders were placed, although with demand likely to far outstrip supply, a ballot will take place on January 31 to allocate tickets.

When tickets first went on sale on February 1 this year, it took 24 hours for the million mark to be reached. “Interest is really picking up, particularly from abroad,” said Horst R. Schmidt, Senior Vice President of the Organising Committee.
