Tale of two strikers in Africa

IT was a tale of two strikers at the African Nations Cup yesterday one who covered himself in glory and the other in shame.

Santos scored a hat-trick as champions Tunisia opened the defence of their title as they bid to become the second side to retain the trophy since it became a 16-team event with a 4-1 victory over Zambia in Group C.

It took the Toulouse striker’s tally to seven in the event.

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Adebayor, 21, saw his status as Togolese hero (11 goals in World Cup qualifying) stripped away after he was labelled a cry baby by national coach Stephen Keshi. The 21-year-old, refused to play in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Also in Group C yesterday , Guinea defeated South Africa 2-0 with goals from Sambegou Bangoura and Ousmane Bangoura.
