Chelsea coaching chance for Desailly

MARCEL DESAILLY claims he has been offered the chance to end his playing days this summer and return to Chelsea to take up a role on Jose Mourinho’s staff.

The 35-year-old former France captain, who cut his playing links with Chelsea by mutual consent on Tuesday, would be taking on his first coaching role if he accepts the invitation to join Mourinho’s newly-announced backroom line-up.

Celtic have been linked with Desailly, but Desailly, who will be 36 in September, could bring down the curtain on a celebrated career before the start of the new season.

“Chelsea have been fantastic with me by freeing me from the final year of my contract, since when I’ve given myself 10 days to decide what my future will hold,” he added.

“I am currently reflecting on new opportunities.”
