Moran banned after drugs test

Welsh Premier League player Andrew Moran has been banned for seven months after testing positive for a banned substance.

A urine sample provided by Rhyl’s Moran in March revealed a positive finding of 19-norandrosterone, a metabolite of nandrolone, an anabolic steroid banned by the Football Association of Wales (FIW) and FIFA due to its performance-enhancing properties. The level of the finding was 55 times greater than the accepted limit.

The finding was confirmed in a second test the following month, and the player was charged by the FAW with a doping offence. Moran failed to provide a satisfactory explanation and pleaded guilty to the charge. He has been banned from football until February 28, 2005.
