Emerton poised for Premiership

AUSTRALIAN star Brett Emerton is poised to join a Premiership club within the next 72 hours, according to his club, Feyenoord. The Dutch side claimed talks were progressing rapidly with three interested English teams.

The wide midfielder was a Newcastle target as recently as last month, when the Magpies had an offer turned down, but Feyenoord insist that Bobby Robson’s team have pulled out of the bidding.

The Dutch giants are eager to sell Emerton as he would become a free agent next season. Potential suitors for the 24-year-old would appear to include Chelsea, boosted by a major cash influx from new owner Roman Abramovich, a Russian billionaire.
