THE marketing men may be billing tonight’s game between DC United and Chelsea at the RFK Stadium as a ‘clash of the champions’ but Jose Mourinho is having none of it.

For the Chelsea manager this three-game, pre-season tour of the US is about preparing his illustrious squad for the tough challenge of a Premier League title defence and an assault on the Champions League.

Playing America's Major League Soccer title holders, even with the boy wonder Freddy Adu in their ranks, is hardly the ideal gauge of the readiness of his expensively assembled group of players.
