EVERTON boss David Moyes has warned Mikel Arteta he will have to lower his wage demands if he is to earn a permanent deal with the Goodison Park outfit.

Arteta impressed during a six-month loan spell with the Toffees last term and was expected to be one of Moyes’ first summer signings as a fee between Everton and Real Sociedad had already been agreed.

However, with the pre-season campaign rapidly approaching, the 23-year-old has still not committed his future to the Merseysiders and though talks are continuing, Moyes is starting to get his squad together for next term and indicated Arteta is pricing himself out of a contract.
