Wenger set to offer ‘super special’ Bergkamp new deal
I’ve made my decision,” said Wenger. “I’m under big pressure tonight but Denis has done extremely well. We’ll sit down before the end of the season - but I feel it will come out at the end of the season. You have to be special to play at 36 at this level and he’s super special.
“He had a hand in the first three goals and created a few other chances - you don’t meet a Dennis Bergkamp on a corner of every street.”
Wenger continued: “We played well tonight and scored some great goals. Recently I feel the team has grown from game to game and is always getting better.”
Thierry Henry returned after a month on the sidelines to raise hopes he will figure in the FA Cup final against Manchester United on May 21.
Wenger added: “Thierry has worked very hard for two weeks now. We will see how he has responded to this half to see what we can do with him.”
Sol Campbell also returned and the Frenchman added: “I felt at the start he was a bit uncertain but he got stronger and stronger through the game.”
Everton boss David Moyes admitted the scale of the defeat was humiliating. “I am embarrassed by tonight’s performance. It has been a great week for Everton FC and I have no criticism of the players but tonight, as a manager, I am embarrassed.”
