Makelele may go to Chelsea

THE agent representing Real Madrid’s Claude Makelele has claimed that the French international could be on his way to Chelsea.

Agent Marc Roger was speaking in Madrid yesterday, where he said that Chelsea had offered £7 million for the 30-year-old central midfield player.

There was no firm comment from Real, whose spokesman said only: “There is nothing official.”

Chelsea’s billionaire Russian owner Roman Abramovich hinted earlier this week that his spending is far from finished, despite a summer outlay of £75m.

Makelele was keen to join Chelsea, claiming his wages would double to £2m per season with the London club.
