Reynolds ruled out for Cork City’s visit to Longford Town
Reynolds suffered a broken nose in the FAI Cup replay against Shamrock Rovers and experienced difficulty breathing in the course of the following match against St. Pats.
Murphy dismissed the suggestion that Cork might make major changes in his team selection because of their 1-4 defeat by St. Pats, a defeat that exposed many shortcomings in the Cork defence.
“Fair play to St. Pats they got it right tactically and we paid the penalty” said Murphy, “we played quite well at stages and for the opening half-hour until they scored we were quite comfortable and kept the ball well.
“Naturally I’m as disappointed as anybody else to lose but you cannot take any match in isolation and the team has been doing very well this season. I don’t wish to make excuses but you must remember that the match against St. Pats was our fourth game in nine days and included in that programme was a trip to Ballybofey.
“We showed signs of tiredness and against a strong and physical team, that was bound to have an effect. So we’ve just got to put that behind us and get back to producing our best football again and the players who’ve been doing it all season deserve another chance.” Longford Town manager Alan Matthews was so pleased with his team’s performance, in drawing with St. Pats at Richmond Park on Friday last, that he will leave the team unchanged. This means new signing Avery John can only hope for a seat on the substitutes’ bench.
John would have made his debut for Longford in the match against St. Pats but he had to serve a one-match ban which was a carry-over from last season and as a result his debut will now be further delayed.
Longford drew 2-2 with Pats and manager Alan Matthews said: “The team did very well against Pats, particularly as the match was at Richmond Park It will become an excellent result if we can follow it up by beating Cork
