Galled Gaul Gallas may be leaving Chelsea

FRANCE’s William Gallas has cast doubt on his future at Chelsea, saying he is dissatisfied with the way the London club is managed.

Galled Gaul Gallas may be leaving Chelsea

The 25-year-old defender, in Paris for the Confederations Cup, revealed last night: “I’m not sure whether I’ll be staying there. They’ve offered me an extension to my contract but I haven’t signed it.”

Gallas added: “I’m not very happy with Chelsea, with the way things are run at the club.”

Last month the Frenchman disclosed that his agent had approached a number of sides with a view to a transfer.

“We’ll have to wait and see,” he told reporters when asked about a possible move. “I want to be in a team that wins trophies, and if necessary I’ll move elsewhere to find that.”

Gallas has a clause in his contract which states he can leave for £7.5m. Chelsea finished fourth, behind champions Manchester United, in the English Premiership last season.

Meanwhile, the agent of French defender Philippe Mexes insists that his client is not keen on a move to the Serie A league side Roma.

It was reported in the Italian media yesterday that Auxerre’s Mexes wants to go to Italy, but his representative Olivier Jouanneux said that the prized defender has suggested nothing of the sort.

He has been linked with a move to Arsenal.

It emerged yesterday that Bayer Leverkusen’s Brazilian defender Lucio has rejected an offer from Real Madrid.

Leverkusen, runners-up in three competitions including the Champions League in 2001/02, but who only just escaped relegation from the German first division last season, are trying to make savings because they are out of European competition.

Lucio said: “I am not going to Madrid. I don’t want to go there.”

Leverkusen’s general manager Reiner Calmund admitted it was clear Lucio had to be sold.

“There have been offers,” Calmund said, “but we are not going to sell the player under his market value and we have till August 31, when summer transfers must be completed.”

This season’s Champions League finalists Juventus are reportedly the best-placed team to sign the World Cup winner.

Manchester United goalkeeper Fabien Barthez was celebrating becoming the father of a baby boy yesterday.

Lenny Barthez weighed in at 3kg (6.6 lbs).

Barthez, 32, was not playing against New Zealand, after being given time off from the tournament following France’s 2-1 victory against Japan, to be at his girlfriend Aurelie’s bedside in Lyon.
