FAI squad off to bright start in Foyle Cup

THE FAI Development squad started their Foyle Cup campaign with a 4-0 victory over Armagh City at St Columb’s Park in Derry yesterday.

Goals from Christy Fagan (Home Farm) and Donal McDermott (Cherry Orchard) gave Vincent Butler’s team a half-time lead, with further strikes from Lorcan Fitzgerald (Shelbourne) and Andrew Callaghan (Millwall) completing the rout.

“It was a good day’s work because the first match can be fraught with tension. We played well and brought on five players so we’ve been able to give people a bit of a rest ahead of today, which will be very busy,” said Butler.

The side plays twice today, clashing with Hungarian side Fercanvaros at the Brandywell (10.30am) before a short break and a second clash against Donegal Celtic at the Swilly Stadium in Templemore (5.30pm).
