Ireland scrum-half Emily Lane is relishing the opportunity of facing World Cup winners England at the start of a new era for her team at Twickenham on Saturday.

In both teams' first outings since the World Cup, Ireland will kick off their Guinness Women’s Six Nations campaign in the toughest of arenas as last October's final winners return to the scene of their triumph over Canada on home soil in front of a championship-record 70,000-plus crowd.

For the Irish, though it will be all about a fresh start following their narrow quarter-final exit to France and Lane said: "I think we really just want to get our gameplan out there and focus on ourselves.

"I think this game this weekend is a great opportunity. It’s the first game after the World Cup. We don’t have any footage to go off. There’s things that have changed in all the squads.

"It’s exciting that we get to go out there and put our stamp on the game. Bring out what we’ve been working on. Just getting our game plan out there.”
