Munster have confirmed the signing of tighthead prop Michael Ala’alatoa from Clermont Auvergne on a seven-month deal.

The 34-year-old, who has 24 international caps and has played at two World Cups, is currently on international duty with Manu Samoa. His contract at Thomond Park will begin on December 1.

Ala’alatoa previously played with Leinster, making 62 appearances and scoring six tries between 2021 and 2024. Before moving to Leinster, he had played with the Waratahs and Crusaders in Super Rugby.

Clayton McMillan's front row options have been hit by injuries this season. Oli Jager suffered a head injury against Edinburgh last month and has not played since while  Conor Bartley is also out injured.

Munster's next game is against the Stormers in the URC at Thomond Park on November 29. Their Champions Cup campaign gets underway the following week against Bath at the Rec.
