Jamie Osborne will play no further part in Ireland’s November internationals series but that blow has been softened to some extent by confirmation that Mack Hansen is back in line for selection against Australia this weekend.

Osborne had been covering at full-back for the already-injured Hugo Keenan but the Naas man had to leave the field early against Japan last weekend with what is believed to be a bad shoulder injury.

Jimmy O’Brien is likely next in line for the No.15 shirt having replaced his Leinster teammate two days ago given his experience in the position but Hansen is another option despite having done most of his work with Connacht and Ireland on the wing.

His provincial teammate Darragh Murray has also linked up with a national squad that trained in Clongowes Wood College on Monday while Stuart McCloskey has stepped up his rehabilitation and is due to train fully this week.

The Ulsterman missed Japan with an adductor issue after impressing against New Zealand in Chicago.

Garry Ringrose, who missed the Japan game with injury, and Josh van der Flier, who was rested for that one, are both nursing slight hamstring strains and a decision on their availability will be made over the coming days.

The Ireland team to face Australia will be named on Thursday afternoon.
