The ovation was heartfelt, the appreciation enormous, as Aviva Stadium united to say their farewells to Peter O’Mahony for the last time in green.

The 35-year-old, who will call time on his illustrious career at the end of the season having captained Ireland, Munster and the British & Irish Lions, was called ashore after 48 minutes against France on his final outing on home soil having told the Irish Examiner he was determined to soak everything in on his two remaining weeks in Test rugby.
