Gordon Wood - son of Ireland and Munster great Keith Wood - has joined the Munster academy, the province has confirmed.

The 20-year-old centre has been playing for Garryowen in the AIL this season.

He previously played schools rugby for St Munchin’s College and represented Munster U18 Schools and Munster U19s.

Wood started his rugby career at Ballina-Killaloe RFC.

He has trained regularly with the Munster senior squad in recent times and has also been involved in Munster A and Munster Development games.

In September, Wood made his first senior appearance against Gloucester in a pre-season friendly at Virgin Media Park.

Elsewhere, Connacht and Premiership outfit Harlequins are set the meet in a mid-season friendly in London early next year.

The fixture will take place at the Twickenham Stoop on Friday, February 21 with a 7.45pm kick-off, providing both teams with further gametime during the Six Nations window.
