New Leinster signing RG Snyman will miss at least the opening round of the new United Rugby Championship campaign.

World Cup-winning Springbok Snyman - who has now completed his switch from Munster to Leo Cullen's Leinster - has returned to Dublin having been absent from South Africa's opening Rugby Championship rounds.

Cullen revealed on Tuesday that the powerhouse lock, 29, had suffered a "minor" foot injury and will likely be back in time for round two at the earliest.

"RG came back, he injured his foot, but it's pretty minor, thankfully," Leinster boss Cullen told media.

"He is rehabbing with us at the moment. He was out on the side of the pitch there.

"I’ve just come in from a session, he was doing a rehab run. He is making progress.

"I am not sure if he will be back for round one but hopefully by round two or three, he will be back for us."

He added: "With South Africa, in terms of the Rugby Championship, listen, he is not going to be available, you have seen they have already announced their squad for next week, he won’t travel to Argentina, so he is likely to stay with us then for the remainder."

Leinster open their URC season against Edinburgh on September 20. They take on the Dragons on September 27, while they are due to face Benetton the week after.
