England's Immanuel Feyi-Waboso: set to start on the left wing at Twickenham on Saturday

EXETER wing Immanuel Feyi-Waboso is poised for a first England start against Ireland on Saturday, capping a meteoric rise after turning out for Taunton Titans less than 12 months ago.

Steve Borthwick is also primed to select the fit-again scrum-half Alex Mitchell and George Martin for the daunting Six Nations meeting while Marcus Smith is expected to return to the matchday 23 as a replacement with George Ford keeping his place at fly-half.

Feyi-Waboso, 21, has caught the eye in his two appearances from the bench to date and is in line for a first start on the left wing with Elliot Daly likely to drop out of the side.

The Exeter winger missed last week’s training camp in York to sit a medical exam but was singled out for praise for his try-scoring cameo in defeat by Scotland. Feyi-Waboso arrived at Exeter after Wasps went into administration but only started playing regularly for the Chiefs at the start of the season, having spent time on loan at Taunton.

Borthwick is due to announce his team on Thursday and Mitchell’s expected return is a significant boost. Marcus Smith is another who is fit again after missing all of England’s three matches to date with a calf injury sustained a few days before their tournament opener against Italy. Ethan Roots is expected to drop out of the side to make way for George Martin.

Meanwhile France head coach Fabien Galthie is ready to roll the dice in a bit to finish the Six Nations on a high with a raft of changes anticipated for Sunday's clash with Wales in Cardiff.

Galthie has released six players back to their clubs and is already without the suspended Jonathan Danty and Matthieu Jalibert, who sustained an injury against Italy.

There is some positive news with locks Thibaud Flament and Emmanuel Meafou back to full fitness along with Les Bleus skipper Gregory Alldritt, who missed the clash against Italy through injury.

Galthie has released forwards Dany Priso, Posolo Tuilagi and Cameron Woki as well as backs Pierre-Louis Barassi, Emilien Gailleton and La Rochelle's out half Antoine Hastoy.

Woki has been dropped from the squad after lacklustre performances. He came off the bench against Ireland and started France’s latter two Tests but has failed to impress as it looks as if Galthie will name an entirely new second row pairing this week.

Hastoy was France’s third choice fly-half at the Rugby World Cup last year but has fallen out of favour with Gatlhie and despite training with the squad this week has not forced his way into the matchday squad. This means that usual full back Thomas Ramos is set to start at fly-half, where he may partner Racing's Nolann Le Garrec.

Louis Bielle-Biarrey is set to return to the starting XV but Galthie is set to hand a starting debut to Stade Francais star Leo Barre. There is another potential debut in Bordeaux youngster Nicolas Depoortere who is primed to fill Danty’s void at inside centre with Gael Fickou on his outside.
