Niall Scannell has admitted he thought his career was over as he struggled to get to grips with troublesome, long-term groin injury earlier season.

The hooker gets a start on Friday night to face URC rivals Zebre Parma in Cork, and there will not be the surprise that greeted his inclusion for the Champions Cup trip to Toulon seven weeks away for an earlier than expected seasonal debut.
