Two tries for McDonald as CBC claim Munster Schools Barry Cup title

CBC Cork claimed the bragging rights with victory in the Senior B Barry Cup final over keen rivals PBC at Virgin Media Park.

A pair of tries from Sean McDonald and another from Andrew Murray helped Christians on their way. The two Cork schools are on opposite sides of the draw in the Schools Senior Cup semi finals too.

Christians needed only eight minutes to assert their authority in the biting cold Wednesday as Murray ducked and weaved his way through the Pres cover to claim the opening try. Darragh O'Callaghan showed his dexterity off the tee with the first of his 13 points on the day.

Employing an effective maul, CBC added to their lead via lock Sean McDonald, who was eventually awarded the try, which O'Callaghan converted.

The full back struck a penalty to ease CBC into a 17-0 lead but with the interval looming, Pres grabbed a foothold in the game. Winger Adam Scott charged down the right after taking a slipped pass, and finished with aplomb to narrow the deficit. Eddie Coughlan added the extras.

The second half saw O'Callaghan with another successful penalty (20-7) but it was McDonald's second try that put this Barry Cup to bed, the second row again utilising his power and mobility to get over the line. To nobody’s surprise, O’Callaghan added the extras (27-7).

After edging Pres 17-12 earlier in the Kidney Cup final, it was double delight for Christians. The question is: can they complete the Munster Schools sweep in March?
