Sentiment absolutely has its place in sport. Andrew Goodman’s decision to leave the Crusaders coaching staff for Leinster in 2022 would have been predicated largely on hard-nosed practicalities but maybe not only that.
The Kiwi had spent two seasons with the province during his playing days and knew enough about the club and Dublin at large to suspect that it would be a decent place to write a new chapter, not just for him career-wise but for his young family as well.
