Paul O’Connell ahead of recovery schedule on Toulon arrival
Paul O’Connell has revealed that he's ahead of schedule in his recovery from a serious hamstring injury.
The former Ireland captain was in the south of France today for his first press conference as a Toulon player. He also attended a squad training session and took part in a team photoshoot.
The 36-year-old wasn't expected to be back in action until next April, but he's confirmed that his rehab is going well and that he's hoping to return to playing by late January or early February.

“It’s good, it’s on the mend,” said O’Connell.
“I’ve been doing physio back in Ireland, so I feel very good doing every day things.
“I haven’t started running yet. Hopefully, I’ll be back January or February, I’m not fully sure yet.”

On togging out in the red of Toulon, he added: “I like it, it’s very strange for me. I’ve only ever played for Munster, I’ve only ever lived in Limerick.
“It’s a big change for me, I’m looking forward to it, but I’m also nervous about it. So, I like the jersey and I’m looking forward to wearing it.”
