Thousands gathered in Auckland to honour the sporting hero who died two weeks ago aged 40, with tributes led by World Rugby chairman Bernard Lapasset.

The emotion of the day was written on the faces of the former players and friends of Lomu, while the crowd watched on in respectful silence.

Lomu’s widow Nadene was in attendance along with the couple’s two sons - Brayley, 6 and Dhyreille, 5.
