After scoring twice last weekend against Romania, Earls joined Brian O’Driscoll as Ireland’s joint-top RWC scorers, with seven apiece.

It is not his first time scoring twice in a single World Cup game.

In 2011 Earls proved he likes to do things on the double. He opened his World Cup account with a brace against Russia in Ireland’s third pool game.

He enjoyed the experience so much he did the same against Italy in Ireland’s final pool game.

He and Ireland were unable to manage a win against Wales, but Earls did score his fifth World Cup try in Ireland's quarter-final defeat. This total of five tries made him Ireland's top try scorer at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

In the four years since that World Cup Earls has had a difficult time with injuries, missing more than two years of rugby in total.

He’s come good at the right time though, starting all three of Ireland’s pool games so far.

And now he’s gone and bagged himself the record just 20 minutes into Ireland's game against Italy.
