WATCH: Paulie has a playful dig at the Ireland backs

At a welcome ceremony for the Ireland team in Burton this week, Paul O’Connell continued the long tradition of banter between backs and forwards in rugby.

The team are based there until their match against Romania on Sunday, and have been granted a precious day off on Thursday.

Captain Paulie explained that the team were splitting up for various different outings on the day.

“A few lads are going to Alton Towers,” he told his audience. “A few are going golfing in the Belfry, and some boys are going shooting.

“The backs are going shopping in Birmingham, I think.”

The best part is how pleased he is with his wisecrack.
