BOD entrusted with job of bringing World Cup to Ireland

Irish Rugby are turning to Brian O’Driscoll once more - with the appointment of the retired Ireland and Lions player to the Oversight Board for Ireland's bid to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

O’Driscoll is just one of several appointments to the board made today, with former Tánaiste Dick Spring appointed Chairman of the Board.

Dr David Dobbin, who is Chairman of the Management Committee of the Ulster Branch IRFU has been appointed Vice-Chairman of the Board.

In addition, Chief Executive of the IRFU Philip Browne, CEO of Ulster Rugby Shane Logan and Chair of the joint RWC Working Group Hugo MacNeill will all serve.

With a number of GAA venues expected to be included in the bid Páraic Duffy, Director General of the GAA, has also been appointed to the board.

O’Driscoll’s official title is that of Bid Ambassador and the rugby hero took to Twitter to express his excitement at the appointment.
