Stringer for Leinster?
By Daniel Pitcher
Former Heineken Cup winning Munster scrum-half Peter Stringer is the latest name to be linked with a move to current Pro 12 Champions Leinster.
With Tomas O’Leary going back to Munster, any possible reunion with Stringer and his former teammate Anthony Foley was always going to be unlikely.
Leinster are more than likely going to need an able body and experienced head to play in the number 9 jersey while the World Cup is happening later this year, with the likelihood of Eoin Reddan and/or Isaac Boss getting Ireland call-up’s is quite high.
Coach Matt O’Connor was today quizzed on the possible move when he spoke to the media, ahead of tomorrow’s Pro 12 clash at home against Zebre.
“I think Guy Easterby might want to answer that," joked O’Connor. “We are looking at blokes all the time, we are probably in a position where we might lose two nines for the World Cup.
“Anyone who comes under the market, especially anyone Irish is of interest to us...I think (Stringer) is doing a great job for Bath, he’s been very good for them – If it was going to be a World Cup slot to fill then it might be an opportunity for us.”
