Clontarf score seven tries against rock-bottom UL Bohs

UL Bohemians are rock bottom in Division 1A after suffering a hiding by seven-try Clontarf at Annacotty this afternoon.

Bohs fell to their ninth defeat in 13 league matches despite putting in an encouraging first half display.

Flanker Simon Crawford, the scorer of a hat-trick against Old Belvedere recently, got the visitors off to a perfect start when he slipped in after only five minutes and out-half Darragh Fitzpatrick landed the conversion.

Clontarf doubled their tally when top-scoring winger Michael McGrath raced in and again Fitzpatrick added the extras. It was even enough for the remainder of the first half at the end of which it stood at 14-0.

But the floodgates opened subsequently and the UL cause was not helped when Ed Kelly was shown a yellow card just minutes after the restart.

McGrath was a constant threat and moved from one wing to another as he helped himself to another try - his 11th try of the league campaign - and Leinster's Noel Reid also touched down with Fitzpatrick converting the first of the tries.

Richie Lane went into action for 'Tarf and marked his arrival with a 59th minute try which he also converted.

With the bonus pount tucked away, it still did not tempt Clontarf into careless play and hooker Cathal O'Flynn had the next try, converted by Lane.

There was to be no hiding place for Bohs who were punished again after 76 minutes with Adrian D'Arcy finishing off an intercept try which Lane again converted.

In the final minute, Ben Martin nipped in for a try for the shattered Limerick side and he popped over the conversion but the issue was well decided before that.
