Talented centre Robbie Hudson scored his second try of the league campaign as St. Mary's returned to winning ways in Division 1A this afternoon.

The reigning champions scored a try in each half as they beat fellow strugglers Shannon to move up to eighth in the standings.

The game at Coonagh was played in atrocious conditions of strong wind and constant heavy rain, with winless Shannon hoping that home advantage would prove important.

However, Hudson sniped through for his try, ending a barren first half spell, as he rounded off a clever move from the visitors.

5-0 in front at the break, Hugh Hogan's men doubled their advantage when experienced number 8 Kevin Croke dotted down having won the race to a long kick from halfway.

Shannon showed plenty of spirit as they tried to mount a comeback and their collective efforts won them a losing bonus point thanks to a penalty from half-back Rob Guerin.
